Life Lesson for Home Buyers

My husband and I are closing on our "Dream Home" today. We aren't buying it. We are selling it, but not with remorse or regret.

We started our house buying experience with a very modest home in a price range we could afford when we were first married and loved it. We lived there for several years saving our money as much as we could. When we sold it we purchased our dream home on beautiful Lake Palestine just outside of Tyler, Texas.

We lived in our dream home for several years. All the while improving its value by adding landscaping, cement circle driveway, boathouse, sidewalks, patio, in-ground pool with a large textured cement patio surrounding it, more molding inside, built-ins, etc.. Many memories were made with family and friends while we lived there that will not be forgotten.

Selling our dream home is also cashing in on the nest egg we have carefully developed. Not only can we afford to build a smaller home we will pay cash for, but we will have funds left over to reinvest and increase our retirement income for our future.

Some take-a-ways from this experience:
  • Plan
  • Save
  • Buy carefully (location, location, location)
  • Maintain and improve the property
  • Always work with a knowledgeable and reputable licensed REALTOR®
